Metacognition and self‐regulation on the road: A qualitative approach to driver attention and distraction

This study aimed to explore the self-regulatory experiences and perceptions of drivers' attentional processes on road, via a metacognitive framework. A total 46 Australian drivers participated in phone interview thematic analysis was applied data. The results revealed that effective self-reported attention regulation perceptually contingent on: driving experience, skills used regulate attention, strategies sustain attention. perceptual difficulty environments shown impact arousal, thus perceived ability control Similarly, cognitive confidence, beliefs about worry mindless were not only influence tendency engage driving, but also subjective self-regulate whilst doing so. has provided evidence for potential concepts help better understand process lapses difficulties road.
